Intel’s new Haswell processors may not have been as important
to desktops or even full-power laptops, but ultra-thin and ultrabook laptops
have benefited greatly.
This new platform also has much tighter power management and
overall manages to greatly boost battery life in lighter-usage scenarios, such
as surfing the web on WiFi. The combination of this with maturing ultra-thin
touch laptop designs has led to some impressive machines at even more
impressive prices, like the Dell Inspiron 15 Touch (model 3537) that is our
best deal of the day.
At first glance it may not sound like much, being a 15-inch
laptop with Core i5 processor for $599.99. However the beauty of this machine
comes out in its details, starting with the Core i5-4200U processor that is of
the aforementioned ULT variety. The reduced heat dissipation of these
fourth-gen chips allowed Dell to keep the thickness of this 15-inch laptop to
just one inch (25 millimeters), while keeping plenty of features built-in,
including the DVD burner.
Combine the slim chassis, great performance, and long
battery life with a no-cost multitouch display and you have a winner for just
under the $600 mark. It has plenty of standard features like four USB ports
(two support USB 3.0), Ethernet, HDMI, media card reader, HD webcam, Wireless-N
(802.11n), Bluetooth, and more.
The bow wrapping up this pretty little package is the one
year warranty that includes in-home service and 90 days of 24-7 phone support.
We didn’t used to be impressed with the value offered in Dell’s touch laptops
previously, but that has all changed with this deal. Head over Dell.com to save
$300 on this little powerhouse today. ULT
